My name is Wallace Barrett, but just about everyone calls me Sonny. I've had the incredible privilege of serving in church leadership and ministry since 1991, when God opened the door for me to serve in youth and music ministry at Unity Baptist Church near Pineville and Deville, Louisiana.
Looking back over the years, one thing has never changed—Jesus Christ has changed my life. His love for me, my love for Him, and His desire to redeem people are what continue to fuel my passion for ministry. I've been blessed to serve in six different churches, and each one has taught me something new about God's faithfulness and the joy of serving His people.
Now in my mid-fifties, I'm more convinced than ever that the church rises or falls on the spiritual health of its men. When men know Jesus deeply, walk closely with Him, and lead with humility and conviction, families are strengthened, churches become healthier, and communities are impacted for the Kingdom of God.
That is why my heart is to encourage men to get off the sidelines and into the game. Jesus didn't call us to simply attend church—He called us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. I believe every redeemed man has been uniquely gifted by God and called to make an eternal difference wherever God has placed him.
At FBCL, our Men's Ministry is about much more than meetings or events. It's about helping men grow in their relationship with Christ, build authentic friendships, serve alongside one another, and become the husbands, fathers, grandfathers, friends, and leaders God has called them to be. It is a joy and privilege to walk with other men as we pursue Christ together and encourage one another to finish the race well.
